We can now reveal the main dates the CSCC is racing next season, we hope you like our choices?
More detail, about which series will race where and when, will follow in November. For now, we'll run you through the main events below, click here to visit our calendar page, to view an image with all the main dates on. Registrations and regulations for members will follow in late November. Marshals and Officials will be able to volunteer for each event shortly.
We start with Silverstone, on the modern Grand Prix circuit, on Sunday 26th February. Yes, you read that right, February! It's the earliest we've ever started a season and whilst weather could of course be a factor, it's a great racing track, whatever the time of year. We will operate from the spacious National paddock, the day after the popular VSCC Pomeroy Trophy event. Adams & Page Swinging 60s and Mintex Classic K however will race at Silverstone GP on 27th or 28th May.
Snetterton 300 comes next, on 25th/26th March, with a CSCC exclusive test day ten days before the race meeting, on 14th March. Both events are popular with you, year after year.
After a nice gap, we return to the super-fast Thruxton, on 6th/7th May. Thruxton is one of the friendliest circuits we visit and a real drivers test of ability, car set up and 'confidence'.
It's Brands, in the warm! Brands Hatch Indy on 3rd/4th June will be a great place to be, nothing more needs to be said.
We have big plans for our event at Anglesey, on the longer International configuration, on 1st/2nd July, it's something new for the club. For now please add the date to your diaries and we will tell you more once detailed planning is complete. Anglesey came top among the lesser-visited circuits in many of your surveys and we know why. A quality race track, with unparalled views and as we're here in July, warm beaches on the doorstep. Perhaps this is an opportunity for a mini-break too?
Donington Park has become your most popular circuit in recent seasons. This time we're on the Grand Prix layout on 5th/6th August. Yes, some of you will say the National has a nicer flow, but we like to offer variety. It's been some years since some CSCC series raced on the GP, whilst other series have yet to have the chance.
Mallory Park makes a welcome return after a three year break, on bank holiday Monday 28th August. Our '40 minute' race series will enjoy a change of format here, both for variety and to better comply with local noise restrictions.
Oulton Park, on Saturday 23rd September, when a few of the trees will start to turn, beautiful. The longest, International layout is one of this countries very best circuits.
Our final UK race meeting and a return to where it all started 20 years ago, at Croft on 14th October. Whilst the CSCC had existed for a season or two prior (with races guesting at other clubs' meetings), Croft was the first race meeting the CSCC organised. Back then we had just the one series of course, Swinging 60s. We're very proud to see that so many drivers who took part then, are still racing with us today. By the time we get there the new restaurant building will be opened. This is a special event for the club, we hope you will join us at this brilliant track, it's worth the drive to get there, wherever you live in the country.
As we announced 12 months ago, we are returning to Daytona in November 2023 and just a few weeks later to Sebring (both in Florida, USA). All CSCC cars are welcomed. We can organise shipping and entries for your own car, or make introductions to arrive and drive, with local teams.
In addition to these main dates, we will have 'out-rounds', where selected series will compete at other events. More on these out-rounds and on which series will race on each day, will follow, later in November. We have listened to your comments and are making every effort to keep each series racing apart and not combined.
What's Missing?
The most notable absence is Spa Francorchamps, our centre piece of the season for well over ten years. It is our intention to miss this from our 2023 calendar, but with every intention to return in 2024 and beyond.
Following Brexit, we put together a member's guide for travelling overseas with your race car, following months of research. In this, we suggested that for many of you, towing your own personal car would not require a Carnet, contrary to advice given elsewhere. This advice proved correct for June 2022, with more than 150 of you racing with us, with minimal border issues and collectively saving members thousands of pounds and countless hours.
Since June, two things have changed our view on racing at Spa in 2023, firstly we have received first-hand accounts of some members being stopped at French customs, when travelling to or from non-CSCC events. These 'could' be isolated cases, but it could indicate a change of guidance at the border. In one recent case, a CSCC member was fined and immediately returned to the UK, despite the race car being road-registered and with applicable paperwork. The second hurdle is that the border is likely to see the introduction of Biometric passport checks, in May 2023 and potential extra delays. The beauty of racing with the CSCC at Spa is the ability for club-level drivers to experience racing at one of the worlds finest circuits, for a relatively modest outlay and be home in time for work on a Monday morning. If we change the advice to our members to purchase a Carnet, our grid sizes will reduce and pose a risk to your club reserves. If we don't give you the right advice and you get stopped, the damage and disappointment would be huge. As we cannot delay our decision, regrettably we are going to monitor the situation closely with our Belgian friends over the next 12 months and bring you the best advice for our return in 2024.
