Support for Spinal Track, the CSCC Marshals’ fund and an update on our 2020 Woodland Trust legacy
With just a few rounds remaining, this is a good moment to reflect and recognise the generosity of our members. You can voluntarily donate to either CSCC good-causes, by choosing to donate £10 each time you enter an event.
This year’s fundraising has focused on two causes closely connected to the spirit of the club:
Spinal Track - a charity that opens up track experiences to disabled drivers, and
CSCC Marshals’ Fund - in appreciation of the volunteers who make our racing possible; we really couldn’t do it without them!
Support for Spinal Track
Members’ donations help Spinal Track provide free track days, rally experiences and car-control opportunities for disabled drivers using adapted cars.
The support given so far this season is not just a financial contribution; it is a practical show
of encouragement for drivers who may otherwise have limited opportunities to take part in motorsport. The founders are CSCC members and do not draw any salary from the charity. Members have so far donated 39 times this season.
Thank You Marshals!
Alongside the donations to Spinal Track, members have also contributed towards the marshals’ fund, over a number of seasons. This is an important gesture of thanks to the people who give their time, energy and expertise so that we can race safely and successfully.
The fund goes towards a £10 cash gesture per day, towards a Marshals expenses. To satisfy HMRC, we ask each Marshal how far they have travelled, it is astonishing that many drive for hundreds of miles to volunteer at our events. They do it for the love and satisfaction of being at the event, they are almost always out of pocket, but we know they appreciate this small gesture from the club and its members.
Without our amazing marshals volunteering at meetings, we simply could not go racing. Their presence on post, quick responses, calm professionalism and commitment in all weathers, underpin every event. Supporting the marshals’ fund is one way for members to acknowledge their contribution and to say a sincere "thank you". Members have so far donated 175 times this season.
Looking Back: The 2020-22 Trees Donation
It is also worth reflecting on the difference your previous donations have made. Between 2020 and 2022, members donated just over £1,000 in support of planting, protecting and maintaining native trees at an Essex farm.
Here is a photo showing a number of the Oak trees growing well this summer, despite the drought and numbers of prowling Deer. They are planted in blocks of 9, to encourage growth upwards. It is inevitable that a few will be lost over time, with the remaining healthy specimens filling the space.
It's a slow process, but we will check in every few years to see how the CSCC trees are progressing. In time they will become a small copse, providing benefits for wildlife, climate and local landscapes.
